On Tuesday, August 15, the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) honored Michael Allegra, former president and CEO of the Utah Transit Authority (UTA), by inducting him into the APTA Hall of Fame. APTA also honored Anja Graves of Cardinal Infrastructure as an Outstanding Public Transportation Business Member.

Michael Allegra, a 37-year veteran of UTA, has left an enduring impression on the agency as its former president and CEO. Michael guided UTA's rail system expansion, leading to the incorporation of an astounding 140 miles of rail within just over ten years. He played a pivotal role in Salt Lake City's successful Olympic bid, orchestrating transportation efforts during the 2002 Olympic Games as well as transforming UTA into a multi-modal operation comprising light rail, commuter rail, streetcar, Bus Rapid Transit, and expanded bus service.

"Michael Allegra's induction into the APTA Hall of Fame is a testament to his remarkable legacy in public transportation,” said Carlton Christensen, Chair of the UTA Board of Trustees. “This well-deserved recognition underscores Mike’s generational impact on transit across the Wasatch Front. We congratulate him on this significant honor.”

Anja Graves is widely respected in the public transportation sector, known for her visionary leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to advancing public transportation. As a long-time consultant to UTA, she has played a pivotal role in shaping UTA’s growth.
